got a crush on: the ettes

meet coco, poni, and jem also known as the ettes.  not many bands make me get super nerdy... but from the time i heard 'take it with you' i needed to know exactly what the hell was going on.  these ladies (and man) are no newcomers to the scene, they released their first album 'shake the dust' in 2006, and have since then released 2 more- most recently 'do you want power' in 2009.  the inner riot grrrl in me can never say no to a girl band, especially one that punches people in the face.  metaphorically, instrumentally, lyrically... and actually. i'm talking to you alice glass.
i wish i would have gotten the chance to see them at lollapalooza this year, but i was busy being 2broke2live, so i just muddled around a bit outside the gates, spilled coffee on myself, and had my picture taken for a style blog right after (coffee stains on white are in grls).  i considered jumping the fence/reconsidered after acknowledging i'm not 8 feet tall.

basically, the ettes are lovely.  if i was held at gunpoint and had to classify them, i'd say the sound is a mix between the black keys, sleater-kinney, and banging shovels on the side of your garage.  if that's your thang, and it should be, check them out. on a side note, i think the ladies and i need some cooler names... i mean coco, poni, and jem?!  girls, we need a meeting stat.  plain jane just won't do.  here's the video for their newest single 'no home' -

why hello

the lush team is here and welcoming you to our site. all four of us have grown up together, see each other during summer, but are now doing our own thangs in different places. here is where we reside and how we hustle:
maddie m. - nyc: school of visual arts 
emory d. - savannah, ga: savannah college of art and design 
maddie e. - chicago: columbia college chicago
kirsten h. - los angeles: fashion institute of design and merchandising.
  
we've been planning on starting this online mag for months now and have to admit, we never actually thought we'd follow through, but here we are. individually we all are inspired by so many things and collectively are living out our lives in amazing places - aspiring to god knows what. the site will be under construction (all i could think of was that 2002 missy elliott album when i said that. wtf missy where are you?), but we're so excited to share an abundance of random info, advice, and luv. like a best friend, like 4 actually. and all of us are special in our own little ways and can hopefully fuel this lovechild to inspire your mind to pieces. oh! eventually, we'll have some guest writers along the way. there's some amazing people out there and we know plenty...many surprises to come.
